Piaggio


Founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio in Genoa, Piaggio initially focused on luxury sea-going vessels but soon expanded to steam-driven saws, rail vehicles (1908), motorboats, and aircraft (1915). Piaggio introduced the pressure cabin for aircraft. Post-World War II, Piaggio shifted to scooters, launching the Vespa in 1946. The three-wheel Ape van followed in 1948. By 1958, Piaggio also produced cars. The company has since acquired several brands, including Gilera, Derbi, and Aprilia, becoming a leading producer of scooters, engines, and motorcycles.
